SPIRITUAL GROWTH

Church School

The 1st Congregational United Church of Christ offers weekly education for our young people. Christian education gives our young people a foundation upon which they can build their faith in God and Jesus Christ. We meet every Wednesday night from 6-7 p.m. Meeting time includes music, crafts, snack and lessons. As part of our education ministry, the children pick 2 benevolences each year to which they dedicate any offerings. Past benevolences include the Ronald McDonald House, Wadena County Humane Society and the Backpacks for Kids food program. Our program meets during the regular school year, from September through the end of April. The children participate in youth services several times a year and the upper elementary children are encouraged to participate in twice yearly camp opportunities. We offer a summer time vacation bible school, usually teaming with other area churches.

Our dedicated volunteer teachers offer the following levels of education:

  • Preschool through 2nd grade
  • 3rd through 6th grade
  • Confirmation 7th grade and up for 2 years
  • High School youth Fellowship 7th-12 grade, monthly

Youth and Confirmation

When our youth complete the 6th grade, they are graduated to the Youth and Confirmation program. In the Confirmation program, the students embark on a 2 year journey of exploring their faith. This culminates in confirmation and full membership in our church.

The youth also participate in bi-weekly youth gatherings. In this informal group, the youth plan activities and opportunities for service to the church and wider community. In the past, youth have travelled to national youth activities, as well as exploring local and regional faith opportunities. They plan and lead several church services throughout the year.

Adult Education

It is never too late to learn about the church and our faith. That is why we offer adult education opportunities. For those who like to read a variety of materials, there is a twice monthly discussion group. We also offer Bible study opportunities. For those interested in learning more about the United Church of Christ and what membership means, we arrange Inquirers classes as needed.

Community Service

Supporting our Community
